Full bio
Ryan Anselmi is a saxophonist, bandleader, and ARC recording artist based in the New York City area. Born in Paola, Kansas — just down the road from Kansas City and its deep jazz heritage — he leads the R(A)H Quintet, co-led with baritone saxophonist Andrew Hadro, as well as his own quartet, trio, and duo configurations.
Anselmi has performed and recorded with pianist Junior Mance, saxophonist James Moody, Selmer artist Tim Price, vocalist José James, and the southern-fried soul band The Gold Magnolias. He is featured throughout Monica Velasquez’s Rexxy Music project, including the 2026 FUTURA release. His playing earned this praise from DownBeat’s B. Doerschuk: “Anselmi blows with grace and insight.”
A dedicated educator, Anselmi has taught students of all levels for over 15 years, from K-12 classrooms to university guest lectures, and mentors young artists through his Rising Star Music Workshop. He doubles on clarinet and flute.
